Through a Farm Lens
I created these works during Residency on the Farm in August 2025. A digital photographer, I came to the Residency on the Farm with the intention of doing a cyanotype (solar photography) project on family and memory and had no desire to work with my digital camera. Instead, the farm gave me a new lens to play with.
When my original project wasn't working out, I started making paper slides with natural elements found around me at the farm - pond scum, a dead spider, leaves and flowers - and photographing them through a pocket-sized Foldscope microscope. I was just playing around with them... until I stepped into the silo and looked up to see the beautiful, round-ish, tin roof that resembles a lens. And then, when taking care of petting the farm's goats, their slitted pupils struck me as a perfect complement to these other images.
